Complex Gynae

A safe and gentle way to treat endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, vulvodynia and more.

Complex gynae conditions have a significant and often devastating impact on women’s health and wellbeing. Yet conditions that are difficult to treat with conventional medicine can improve significantly with Acupuncture for Complex Gynae, making this an important and hugely rewarding area of my practice. Endometriosis, polycystic ovaries (PCO or PCOS), pelvic pain and vulvodynia are all good examples.

I couldn’t recommend Ali highly enough. Her expertise and support whilst going through a number of health challenges, including endometriosis have been invaluable. She is a fount of knowledge, empathy, and care and has made a huge difference in both my physical and emotional health.

Endometriosis is characterised by extreme pelvic pain that is usually worse during the period.

Sometimes the severity of symptoms make it impossible for women and girls to function normally, even with strong pain medication. In theses instances, my aim is for acupuncture to work alongside pain medication to help women function normally throughout their cycle. The focus is on both easing pain and treating any medication side effects, such as stomach pain, diarrhoea and headache. Sometimes, these improvements build so that women and girls are able to completely discontinue their pain medication and enjoy normal cycles, even years after diagnosis.

Like endometriosis, PCO and PCOS can have a huge impact on women’s mental and physical health. The hormone imbalance that leads to long cycles and anovulatory bleeds, also affects women’s skin, hair and body weight. And the surges in hormones that come and go as the ovaries try repeatedly to release an egg, are hugely disruptive to women’s mood and emotions and their sense of self. It is therefore incredibly rewarding to track how much better women feel in themselves as their hormones become less erratic and ovulation becomes more regular with Acupuncture for Complex Gynae.

Just wanted to say NO PELVIC PAIN this afternoon – amazing!! Thank you!

Vulvodynia is a relatively common condition we hardly hear about, as it is difficult to talk about and difficult too for GPs to diagnose, often mistaken for cystitis or thrush. It is experienced as burning and pain of the vulva, and is caused by hypersensitivity of the nerve fibres in the vulval skin. It can feel like sitting on broken glass, and can make wearing underwear impossible. It is also a condition that can respond really well to Acupuncture for Complex Gynae. In 2022 researchers reported more clinical trials are planned, as acupuncture promises to offer women and girls a safe, non-invasive treatment option, without the unwanted side-effects from medications such as tricyclic antidepressants.
